We still use them for bottling fruit and I have found in an aunt's loft
a cardboard box with a dozen unused ones.

Subject: [SHCG-LIST] Kilner jars

---------------
We have 10 Kilner jars (7 large [2 LBS capacity], 3 smaller) that were
offered as a donation, but we're not going to take them. Just thought
I'd ask if anyone on the list is interested? [images available on
request].
Kilner jars were glass jars used for preserving foods, they appear to
have been manufactured at Denaby Main in Conisbrough, South Yorkshire
(the glassworks closed in 1936). I'm wondering if any local museums,
such as the Museum of South Yorkshire Life, would be interested (chances
are though they already have plenty of Kilner stuff?)
Some of the jars are plain, some have "The Kilner Jar Regd." (with lids
that say "Original "Kilner" Jar Lid" embossed and some have "The Kilner
Jar Improved Regd." (with lids that say "Improved "Kilner" Lid").
Others say "Kilner Bros. Ltd, Makers" on the lids.
For the general interest of list members, if anyone out there is a
Kilner jar expert (I certainly am not), why don't you entertain & inform
us with some extra knowledge on the subject!
