Selecting from an object catalogue can happen in various ways. If the
server supports it you can apply cuts on columns, if it doesn't you can do
those locally. You can also select locally using Tcl column expressions.
Each catalogue can support a range of symbols, so that can be used to
colour up different selections within the same catalogue.
