medieval-religion: Scholarly discussions of medieval religion and culture
There was a peacock-feather flabellum in the image of Benedict and
Maurus which we discussed a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, I've
deleted it, but it was borne by a monk or acolyte on the left. Flabella
were partt of the paraphernalia of papal ceremonial until the time of
