Hi All
One hogshead = 54 gals
Therefore 3 hunderkins = 2 hogsheads = 108 gals
and a humberkin would = 36 gals = 1 barrel.
(The term barrel is used here in the sense of a
measure as well as being a cask of that size.) So a
humberkin would appear to be an alternative name for a
barrel - which I think you thought it was.
What part of the country is this?
