Hi
Sorry to have been off-wire for a few days while at a conference - I have just caught up with the majority of this
discussion, although I am not yet back in the office.
It is a matter of record that Ian Snowley, as Vice-Chair of Executive Board, put the case against keeping LIS-CILIP, and
I am sure that he can respond to that part of the question better than I.
LIS-CILIP was set up, as will be seen from previous discussions, for CILIP by Ian Johnson of Robert Gordons University,
and he is currently moderator. One point made by Ian Snowley was that Ian Johnson wishes to be rid of the moderating task.
I pointed out in my paper to Council and in previous discussions here, that if LIS-CILIP were 'closed down' by CILIP (I
am assuming that as Ian set it up for CILIP, he will also close it down for CILIP) the list would almost certainly
reopen with another name - I thought 'THE-LIST-PREVIOUSLY-KNOWN-AS-LIS-CILIP' had a nice ring to it! I am glad to see
that colleagues are of a like mind.
Someone noted earlier in the discussion that adverse comments about CILIP on a list apparently moderated by CILIP may be
one reason why CILIP wanted the list closed. I cannot possibly comment.
Finally, thanks to Karen for her earlier answers on the list; I have to agree that one or other of us should have
reported back to the list earlier - for myself, I can only apologise that the day-job got in the way. I support wholly
her thought that councillors should be reporting back to membership constituencies.
Thanks for all the support; sorry we lost the day; although I think that winning the point that LIS-CILIP should - as
Karen says - remain open until the Communities of Practice are seent to be working was a small success!
