Just a heads up as I haven't heard anything here about this for a while.
My Group Councillor has emailed me to say that the proposal to close this
list was agreed in Council last week.
Now, I know there has been discussion on the list about who the list owner
is and who has the power to close the list, so there is no need to rehash
all that unless someone has a definitive answer, but I thought others would
like to know.
It seems clear from the feedback I received that CILIP Council felt the name
of this list implied that they owned it and that this was undesirable. It
was also felt that the Communities of Practice would be viable as an
alternative and that they would have the ability to "push" messages once a
member has elected to receive them.
Reassurance was given that the list would not be closed until such time as
the Communities of Practice had proved themselves viable and that the list
membership would be merged with another suitable list from the LIS stable,
such as LIS-LINK.
Please don't shoot me, I'm just a messenger!
