Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust is a registered Scottish Charity which aims to conserve and promote the historic environment of the area (www.pkht.org.uk). The Trust is looking to appoint a new member of staff for a two-year period to administer the Exploring Perthshire's Past! (EPP) project, an outreach programme, part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, with the aim of increasing awareness and involvement with respect to the historic environment of the Perth and Kinross area. The post will be based in Perth although will involve working throughout Perth and Kinross. The Project Officer will develop, promote and undertake:
· A programme of summer events consisting of guided walks around archaeological sites and historic buildings.
· A winter lecture series to local societies and community groups.
· Key practical events involving archaeological excavation and historic building recording.
· Enhancement of Record Search, the online version of the Perth and Kinross Historic Environment Record (HER) through the production of mediated summaries for use by the general public.
You will have an appropriate degree and some experience in the use Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and the historic environment. A sound understanding of Scottish archaeology, historic buildings and conservation issues is required. Excellent communication skills are required, preferably with a proven track record in community archaeology or outreach and historic buildings. Familiarity with the Perth and Kinross area would be an advantage. Membership of The Institute of Field Archaeologists or The Institution of Historic Building Conservation would be desirable. A full clean driving licence and access to a vehicle for work use is essential.
The fixed-term, two-year post is graded on the salary scale AP 3 £ 18,840 - 20,673, with placing on the scale being dependant on experience and qualifications.
