GridPP hasn't (officially) supported Classic SEs since, er, a
long time ago. So LCG "stopping support" won't make any difference.
It is at least 6 months ago we recommended migrating away, and
to a good approximation we don't have any left.
Experience has shown the superhero approach works best in
vanquishing the manxome ClassicSE from the tulgey Grid, in
general.
So I suppose we should clean them up but I am not terribly
concerned or in a hurry about it.
Cheers,

Dear All
Please could you note the mail below? As far as I can see only Lancaster
and Sheffield still publish a Classic SE. An item for the next storage
group meeting?
John
You probably saw the announcement directly but just it case it impacts
any Grid Ireland site I am copying you in to he mail.

Subject: Classic SE to DPM migration
Dear ROC managers,
We are planning to stop the support for the Classic SE around autumn.
The main reason for this is the lack of ACL's/VOMS support.
The recommended strategy is to migrate to the Disk Pool Manager (DPM).
The migration has been tested and already performed by some sites, and
the needed migrating scripts are provided (see attached mail for more
details).
Could you, please, pass this message to the sites in your region and
start planning and following up the migration with them?
We'll follow up the progress at the ROC managers and weekly operations
meetings.
Thanks in advance,
Maite
------------------------------------------------------
For all sites running a Classic SE:
We would like to inform you that the Disk Pool Manager (DPM) offers a
good replacement solution for disk space storage. Indeed, on top of the
Classic SE features, the DPM provides :
- Logical Namespace,
- Authorization and ACLs,
- Manageable storage (easy to add/remove disk space),
- Automatic garbage collection.
The DPM also supports the SRM protocol, that is required by many VOs.
More details about the DPM, in the administration point of view, are
given in this presentation :

nfId=a058483
When migrating from a Classic SE to the DPM, the existing physical files
don't need to be moved.
Only a metadata operation is required : the exisiting files have to be
registered in the DPM Name Server. Of course, we provide a script to do
this automatically.
The migration procedure is describe here:
