The Refugee and Migrants Forum (see below) will be consulting with
refugee and asylum seeker communities in Manchester in the coming
months about their experiences of immigration services at Dallas
Court reporting centre and short-term holding facility in Salford.
Following the consultation we hope to take our findings to a meeting
with IND staff at Dallas Court later in the year as a means of
opening a dialogue with them about service improvement.
We would be very interested to hear from anyone who is doing research
in this area at present or who would be interested in getting
involved. Perhaps this fits in with your own research and we could
look at ways of working together for example? Or perhaps you'd be
prepared to assist in preparations for our consultation event or even
help facilitate some focus groups?
Please do get in touch if you'd just like more information about the
Forum - there are some further details and a web address below.
Many thanks,
Sophie King

What is the the Refugee and Migrants Forum?
The Forum was established to speak out on issues of concern to
refugees and to co-ordinate the work of refugee community
organisations.
It works to create a city that values the contributions of new
arrivals and treats them equally.
The Forum is part of the Community Network for Manchester and MRSN
provides the organisational base.
A comprehensive Directory of Refugee and Migrants Organisations and
Support Agencies is kept regularly updated. Copies are available on
request and online at www.mrsn.org.uk
The Forum initiated the Refugee Charter for Manchester.
The Refugee Charter is a unique document written by refugees and
asylum seekers in Manchester and is available on the above website.
