Looks like the old lib32/64 problem. Redhat & Fedora run with a dual or
bi - architecture setup so that 32bit compiled software will find the
right libs by default. You should be able to work around it by following
http://www.jiscmail.ac.uk/cgi-bin/webadmin?A2=ind0406&L=CCPNMR&P=R86&I=-3
Incidentally, it is possible to install the 32 bit version of Fedora on 64
bit processor machines and this eases the system admin considerably. I
now run the i386 version of FC4 on all my dual Opteron and dual core
Athlon64 processor machines very happily. It has been reported that most
things actually run faster under the 32 bit version of the OS! The only
reasons I know of (correct me if I'm wrong) for using the 64bit versions
would be if you were dealing with very large files (no, I mean really
big), or had code that was optimised for the 64bit OS.
