Dear Tony & List
Just for all your info' re' Mining in South Australia thier is a book worth
remembering:
'RECORD of THE MINES OF SOUTH AUSTRALIA' Fourth Edit, By H.Y.L BROWN, F.G.S
Gov' Geologist,
Printed by Gov' Printer, North Terrace, Adelaide 1908.
To use a pun' it is a mine of information it is compiled from all of the
Gov' Mining Reports up to about 1908,
it was reprinted in 1985, it is a paperback book, of 382 pages, I paid about
$8au dollars for my copy in the 80's.
Re The Strathalbyn Mine the above says it was a short term mine & Smelter
taken over by the common used term 'English Interests'.
Hope the above helps some one.
Take Care.

Almost certainly this refers to the mining area around Strahalbyn, South of
Adelaide.
In 1845 Strathalbyn became the site of Australia's second ever metal mine.
There were also a number of major diggings and mines extending 20 kilometres
north to towns like Callington and Kanmantoo, making the Hills Australia's
first ever mining belt. The last mine only closed in 1970.
The above came from a google search "Strathalbyn Mine"
