Research Scientist in Information Technology

Sharp Laboratories of Europe is looking for a research scientist in
Information Technology to join its very successful team based on the
Oxford Science Park. We are one of the leading European research centers
in consumer electronics with many successful products in the market. A
research scientist will join a project in technology-enhanced learning
on portable electronic devices. This will involve the innovation of new
product/service concepts.
To be considered for this position you must be creative, self-motivated,
user-focused, flexible, and a team-worker. You should enjoy solving hard
problems, programming, and be able to take requirements quickly to
working prototype. You are likely to be involved in business trips to
Europe and the Far East.
A good first degree in Maths, Computer Science, Engineering, or a
related field is essential, and an MSc or higher degree is desirable.
Your skills will ideally include:
- Experience working within an R&D team
- Natural programming ability (e.g. C/C++, Java, Perl or others)
- Background in one or more of the following areas
- Practical HCI methods and user interface design for portable
platforms
- E-learning or technology-enhanced learning
- Natural language processing or language pedagogy
You are expected to have a strong desire to influence the future of
consumer electronics by creating innovative ideas and pursuing them
through patents and prototypes to products.
