Call for expressions of interest in membership of the ALT *Further
Education Committee*
This is a call for expressions of interest in serving on the committee
for a three year period from Autumn 2006.
We have *3* vacancies for membership.
The purpose of the Further Education Committee is to help ALT strengthen
and extend its services across the learning and skills sector, including
FE colleges, adult and community learning providers, specialist
colleges, LEAs, voluntary sector providers, and Work-based training
providers.
The full Terms of Reference of the Further Education Committee are
included at the end of this email.
Like other ALT committees the Further Education Committee will meet
three times per year, with one of these meetings normally conducted by
telephone conference. For members who require it, ALT will reimburse
travel and reasonable out-of-pocket expenses.
If you are interested in serving on the committee (for a maximum initial
term of 3 years) please send an expression of interest (as an email,
rather than as an attachment) to Seb Schmoller, Executive Secretary of
ALT ([log in to unmask]), by no later than 17.00 GMT on Friday
18 August 2006. All expressions of interest will be acknowledged, but
note that I will be on leave from 5 to 18 July.
When expressing an interest, please briefly respond under the following
3 headings:
1. Your current involvement in learning technology.
2. Your work responsibilities.
3. Why you are interested in membership of the the Further Education
Committee.

Further Education Committee - Terms of Reference
Purpose:
To help ALT strengthen and extend its services across the learning and
skills sector, including FE colleges, adult and community learning
providers, specialist colleges, LEAs, voluntary sector providers, and
Work-based training providers.
Functions:
1. To frame a further education committee budget for which the budget
holder will be the committee chair.
2. To advise ALT on developments in the learning and skills sector that
have an impact on the adoption and implementation of new technologies
for learning.
3. To advise ALT on its range of services (and their promotion) as these
relate to the learning and skills sector.
4. To make recommendations to the Central Executive Committee on actions
which ALT should take and policies ALT should adopt pertaining to the
learning and skills sector.
5. To work to ensure that ALT members working in the learning and skills
sector are encouraged to participate in ALT activities ( eg contributing
to ALT publications, workshops, ALT-C etc).
6. To liaise with ALT’s other committees on issues pertinent to the
learning and skills sector, and to in particular with ALT's Membership
Services Committee concerning ALT's annual events calendar. The latter
will include giving consideration to the organisation of an annual
conference aimed at practitioners across the learning and skills sector.
7. To act as a sounding board for ALT in relation to ALT consultation
responses that are relevant to the learning and skills sector.
8. To produce 2 reports annually to ALT covering relevant policy
developments.
9. To contribute to the maintenance and development of the ALT three
year strategy.
