APOLOGIES FOR CROSS POSTINGS
TO ALL URBAN RESEARCHERS / THEORISTS / ACADEMICS AND INTERESTED PARTIES
OR PRACTIONERS
In recent years there has been a consistent growth in the quantity of
urban theory and research, leading to a range of high quality output from
across the social sciences and beyond.
We request expressions of interest and welcome suggestions for
coordination of interests in urban theory and research. Some examples of
suggested areas under consideration for inclusion in this study group
include; understanding ‘space’ and ‘place’ - the use and practice of urban
space as well as dynamics of public and private; urban and social policy
(for example anti-social behaviour / sustainable communities / CCTV etc);
regeneration (including economy and culture); urban design and design
theory (including architecture); environmental planning; the everyday
experience of the city; notions of home; urban cultures and society; the
redefinition of governance and the roles of local authorities in managing
the city; the rescaling of governance (increases in public-private
partnerships / city marketing / entrepreneurialism), the city-region as a
field of study, globalisation, the city & the state and urban
redevelopment amongst a host of other related issues with international
dimensions and plenty of room for expanding threads to include urban
themes.
In this group it is hoped that interested parties will engage with a range
of thematic events, develop and encourage creative and innovative
scholarship and the exchange of ideas between new faces and established
academics leading to publications and themed books or journal issues.
