>There is an immediate opening for a full-time position of Project &
>Communications Coordinator for the DRPI-Canada project.
>
>DRPI-Canada is a five-year research project primarily funded by a Social
>Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Community-University
>Research Alliance (CURA) grant to establish a monitoring system to address
>disability discrimination. The research addresses the current lack of
>information and understanding about the human rights situation of people
>with disabilities in Canada. It brings together key members of the Canadian
>disability policy community and the human rights community to develop the
>tools, skills and infrastructure needed to gather this information. People
>with disabilities and disability-related organizations are involved in all
>aspects of the project.
>
>The research is organized into four interrelated themes: individual
>monitoring (gathering information about the personal experiences of people
>with disabilities living in four urban sites across Canada), media
>monitoring (examining the coverage and depiction of people with
>disabilities
>by the Canadian media to reveal the messages about disability that
>influence
>and reflect societal attitudes to the individual), law and policy
>monitoring (assessing the systemic framework in which the individual
>experiences occur) and survey dataset monitoring (examining the ways in
>which information about the situation of individuals with disabilities has
>been collected previously and how information-gathering methods should
>differ with a rights approach).

>Professor Marcia Rioux, York University, is the Principal Investigator of
>the project.
>
>Duties:
>The position will involve:
>· Working with the Principal Investigator and Steering Committee to oversee
>the project;
>· Working with the Project Team (Principal Investigator, Theme Co-Leads,
>Co-Applicants and Organizational Partners) to coordinate the research and
>delivery of outputs;
>· Communicating with the Steering Committee, project partners and potential
>partners;
>· Overseeing the project’s knowledge mobilization and dissemination
>strategy;
>· Creating and maintaining the project website and virtual knowledge
>network;
>· Supervising graduate research assistants;
>· Monitoring and preparing budget reports for funding bodies;
>· Seeking additional sources of funding and preparing funding proposals, as
>required;
>· Working in cooperation with the Project Coordinator of
>DRPI-International;
>and
>· Other tasks, as required by the Principal Investigator or her designate.

>Qualifications:
>
>Required:
>
>1. Experience in project management, developing work plans and writing
>funding proposals;
>2. Experience developing effective communication strategies including
>newsletters, reports,
> websites, etc;
>3. Advanced research skills including experience in quantitative and
>qualitative data analysis;
>4. Experience efficiently overseeing budgets;
>5. Excellent oral and written communication skills; and
>6. Excellent management skills.
>
>Preferred:
>
>1. A graduate degree in the area of law or social sciences.
>2. Direct experience working with people with disabilities.
>3. Experience in initiating and fostering partnerships.
>4. Fluency in both English and French is a strong asset.
>5. Cross cultural experience is an asset.
>
>Salary:
>Compensation will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of
>the successful candidate.
