We use Articulate here. Easy to use and produces tiny .swf files
http://www.articulate.com/presenter.html
But it does cost money and isn't open source.

We ran a trial of Impatica but decided against it (can't remember all the
reasons off the top of my head, but it sure wasn't user friendly)

That gets my vote Simon, I think it?s a wonderful tool, and very
underrated. Possible reason it didn?t take off on launch was probably to
do with it requiring Windows 2000 when most colleges were still running
with NT or 98 at the time. It?s passed by, and now they?re able to run
it, they don?t know what it is!

MS Producer for Powerpoint is the best match for my money. It allows
narration or webcam/talking head shot to run in conjunction with a slide
show and outputs the lot into an HTML/streaming audio/video format. Even
allows more HTML on the page too.

A great tool often ignored, possibly due to its pedigree. Oh, and it?s
free.

Hi

PhotoStory and Movie Maker are both free downloads from MicroSoft. They
may offer some facility to what you are after. Both have audio transcript
availability

Dear All,

Can anyone recommend a tool which can generate a combined
slideshow/transcript/audio commentary in the style of Impatica? We are
looking at using such a tool for certain aspects of an e-learning
programme but, as with all things electronic, we have limited resources.
Any suggestions or recommendations would be most welcome ahead of us
spending what money we can muster. Obviously tools developed by the Open
Source community would be of particular interest!

Apologies for the request not being strictly VLE-based. I've tried with
little success to trawl the JISC discussion archives for an answer to this
question, but I'm confident this issue has been raised before.

Many thanks,

Dave
