Dear all,
Apologies for cross posting. Please find information below on the
postgraduate e-conference 'Researching Contemporary Cities' which is being
co-ordinated by postgraduate geography students at the University of
Manchester. If you are a postgraduate student or supervise a postgraduate
student who may be interested in participating in this e-conference then
please rad the information below and follow the links provided.
Kind regards,
Vinny Pattison,
PhD Geography,
The University of Manchester.

Researching Contemporary Cities Postgraduate E-conference

I am writing to you to announce the 'Researching Contemporary Cities'
(RCC) postgraduate e-conference series and request papers from
postgraduate/graduate students to be presented at this e-conference. The
RCC e-conference examines the vitally important ways in which various
urban actors and institutions across the world experience and (re)shape
processes of economic and political restructuring. It focuses on three
particular axis of urban political-economic life: regulating the city,
working in the city, and organising in the city. It is sponsored by the
Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) and coordinated by five PhD geography
students at the University of
Manchester.
The e-conference will be free-to-access through Access Grid
technology. Therefore, it can be viewed through your laptop or on a big
screen at your institution and will be shown at the WUN universities of
Manchester, Bristol, Sheffield, Southampton, Leeds, Wisconsin-Madison,
Urbana-Champaign, Washington,
Penn-State, California-San Diego, Utrecht, Oslo and Bergen.
The sessions will take place on the following dates at 4-6.30pm
GMT (10am-12.30 CT):
- Regulating the City: Thursday 2nd November 2006
- Working in the City: Thursday 9th November 2006
- Organising in the City: Thursday 16th November 2006

The conference allows like minded researchers to present their work and
receive feedback in a friendly and constructive environment. It also gives
researchers the chance to find out about similar work which is being
carried out in other institutions in the hope of fostering mutually
beneficial research networks. If you wish to present at this session or
one of the others, simply e-mail an abstract of 400 words (together with
six keywords and the relevant session name) to either
[log in to unmask] or
[log in to unmask] The abstract deadline is 14th July
2006.

The RCC website is now up and running and is accessible at
www.wun.ac.uk/rcc so please take a look at the website. If you know of
anyone that might like to present at or attend any of the sessions at this
e-conference please forward this e-mail to them.

If you have any questions regarding this e-conference feel free to contact
Ian or Mary at the above address. We look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Vinny Pattison
RCC e-conference co-coordinator
