Advancing Harm Reduction. International Lessons for Local Practice
Keppel Street London WC1E 7HT 7th September 2006
This one-day conference has been organised to allow those who were unable to attend the
recent conference in Vancouver the opportunity to hear about and discuss some of the key
themes of the event and the new ideas in many areas of practice presented there. These
include advances in the development of user advocacy, work on tackling bacterial and viral
infections, engaging young people in harm reduction, developments in harm reduction and
heroin use - including examining the evidence from heroin trials. There will also be a
report back on some of the 'fringe' meetings from the conference. In addition there will
be an opportunity to discuss some new developments in the UK including the Joseph Rowntree
report on consumption rooms and a recent study on non-problematic heroin use.
Speakers will include
Gerry Stimson (Executive Director of IHRA)
Danny Kushlik (Director of Transform)
Charlie Lloyd (Research Manager at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation)
Daren Garratt (Development Manager at the Alliance)
