The School of Applied Social Sciences at Durham University is delighted
to announce four new Postgraduate Scholarships for the following Masters
Programmes starting in October 2006:
MA Social Research (Sociology)
MA Social Research (Social Policy)
MA Social Research (Social Work)
Durham University is one of the UK's leading research universities with
world-class expertise in the social sciences. Durham graduates are some
of the most sought after in the UK, offering a range of knowledge,
skills and experience developed by excellent teaching,
internationally-rated research and superb student support services.
The School of Applied Social Sciences’ suite of Masters degrees combines
a subject specialism in Sociology, Social Work or Social Policy with a
training in research methods that is fully recognised by the Economic
and Social Research Council. The degrees provide an excellent
preparation for careers in market and policy research, further and
higher education, and a wide range of professions in the public and
voluntary sectors that use or commission research. They can be studied
full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months, although bursaries
are only available for those who study in full-time mode. During your
Masters year you will have the opportunity to work with a potential PhD
supervisor to develop an application for Doctoral funding.
We are delighted to announce a new competition for Postgraduate
Scholarships which pay MA fees (Home/EU students only) and offer a
maintenance grant of £2,000 towards living expenses for study during the
2006/07 academic year. Applicants for the Scholarships will be required,
as a condition of the offer, to signal an intent to apply for a PhD
place at Durham and to apply for external funding to support this.
The application process is in two stages:
1) Applications for the MA should be submitted on the Graduate School’s
on-line application form (http://www.dur.ac.uk/graduate.school/).
2) Candidates applying for the Scholarships should also submit a CV and
