I think you can construct a religion neutral questionaire - the
question on Darwin, for example - and produce an index which would
indicate how religious a group of people are. Church attendances
another.
Whether or not the original research did this in a scientifically
rigorous manner is open to question. Certainly, another piece of
research to triangulate (or not) the first piece would be interesting.
