My knowledge of these is limited. Many years ago, I saw a decree resulting
from such a commission (relating to a school); I may have seen reference to
another for another school. If I remember correctly, it was in form rather
like an inspeximus - a document under the great seal issued in the king's
name to the effect that he had inspected and confirmed a document recited in
it; for an inspeximus this would be a charter of some kind, but in the case
of charitable uses, it would be a decree or order as to how the charity
should be administered.
I think that commissions would have been issued out of Chancery, and I would
expect any regular series of records to be a Public Record Office Chancery
class, but that is as much as I can say. I had a similar query some months
ago about Royal assent to the orders of commissioners of sewers (relating to
land drainage and other matters). I identified a Chancery class with these,
but all related to the fens on the east of England - not what I was looking
for. I eventually found that transcribed into the Privy Council Register
(PRO, PC 2 - indices only at PRO), but that is exceptional and possibly
unique.
May be some one else can help. I am sure that you know that the PRO
catalogue is available on the Internet, though the descriptions in it are
incomplete, due to incomplete cataloguing and a lack of resources to convert
manuscript finding aids into computer files.

Subject: Charity Commissions
To all,
The Act of charitable Uses (1597, 39 Eliz.I c.6)mentioned the functions of
charity commissions.
Can anyone tell me if there would be some documents relative to Charity
Commissions esp. during 1640s and 1650s?
