italian-studies: Scholarly discussions in any field of Italian studies
Could someone please help me?!
I'm transating a biography of Palmiro Togliatti (leading Italian
communist), and at one point the author refers to Massimo Mila in the
following terms;
Massimo Mila, un intellettuale ex-azionista assai vicino al PCI.
Well, the dictionary gives "shareholder" for "azionista", but I don't
think it can possible mean that in this context, as it then goes on to
refer to Mila's articles for L'UNITA (unless of course he was a
shareholder in L'UNITA, but that seems highly unlikely). So is it possible
that the author is actually trying to say "Activist"?
(I did know that Mila was an active anti-Fascist, though I am more
familiar with his music criticism.)
Would be very grateful indeed if anyone can shed light on this!
