British Comparative Literature Association Graduate Reception
The British Comparative Literature Association (BCLA) invites all graduate
students in Britain who are interested in comparative literary studies to
a seminar, followed by a reception on Tuesday, 7 November, 2006, beginning
at 5.30 pm. The aim of the event is to foster a sense of community amongst
graduate students who are pursuing comparative and/or interdisciplinary
work, broadly defined, within both national literature and comparative
literature departments. Both doctorate and master's level students are
welcome.
The event constitutes a special session of the Reading and Reception
Studies Seminar organized by the Research Project on the Reception of
British and Irish Authors in Europe. Dr Elinor Shaffer, FBA, the convenor
of the Seminar, is a founding member of the British Comparative Literature
Association and its Executive, and long-time Editor of its yearbook,
Comparative Criticism (Cambridge University Press).
The exact title of the seminar presentations will be announced closer to
the time, but they are expected to reflect the wide range of interests of
those working within the discipline. The venue of the event will be the
School of Advanced Study, Stewart House, 32 Russell Square, London WC1.
Attendance is on a strictly first-come, first-served basis. Depending on
numbers, a small fee may be requested to cover the cost of the event.
Please contact Marco Wan at [log in to unmask] by JUNE 30, 2006 if you would
like to reserve a place.
