CUHTec Preventative Technology Fair:
Making Telecare and Electronic Assistive Technology Work
(This title refers to the recent Government "Prevenatitive Technology
Grant")

The Huntingdon Room, Kings Manor, York, Thursday 20 July, 2006
The Centre for Usable Home Technology (CUHTec) at the University of
York offer this Preventative Technology Fair as a meeting place for:
telecare service providers and commissioners; equipment suppliers;
researchers, and the voluntary sector.

10.30 Welcome, Andrew Monk and Steve Sadler
10.35 "What I am most proud of", panel discussion
Innovative telecare service providers tell of their triumphs (and
occasional despair), and a chance for the audience to do likewise.
Panellists include:
David Ward, Hanover England
Charles Lowe, London Borough of Newham
11.30 "Unmet needs", panel discussion
Speakers from health, adult services and the voluntary sector will
talk about the unmet needs of older people. The audience can add
theirs. Panellists include:
David Sinclair, Help the Aged
Barbara Dunk, South London and Maudsley NHS
Trust
Carole Bayliss, Knowsley PCT
12.30 Lunch and networking opportunity
1.30 "Equipment hotline", panel discussion
Manufacturers and suppliers will talk about what they do, what is
coming next and what they want from their users. An opportunity to
tell them how it should be. Panellists include:
Steve Sadler, Tunstall Group
David Foster, Initial Attendo
John Wotton, Chiltern Invadex
2.15 "What the future holds", panel discussion
Some influential researchers tell what they see as the priorities for
research, your chance to tell them yours. Panellists include:
Roger Orpwood, Bath Institute for Medical
Engineering
Christine Victor, University of Reading
Helen Petrie, University of York
Alan Newell, University of Dundee
3.00 Tea
3.30 Interactive Forum Theatre, "Hullo Gran!"
Maggie Morgan, Leverhulme Artist-in-Residence in Dundee University's
School of Computing, along with two professional actors, will
demonstrate the use of interactive forum theatre to articulate the
voice of older people with vital involvement from the audience.
Maggie's work is part of an on-going research program developing ways
of designing technology to support older people.
4.30 The fair closes
The following organisations will be displaying posters: Invicta
Telecare; Pennaf Housing Group; Help the Aged; Initial Attendo;
Phillips; Chiltern Invadex. There will an exhibition of Tunstall
equipment

The meeting will be held in King's Manor, one of historic York's most
attractive and unusual sites in the centre of York and within walking
distance of the railway station. York is less than 2 hours from
London King's Cross and 2.5 hours from Edinburgh. Further details

CUHTec members associate members and university researchers
(associate membership is for charitable organisations and is free of
