[Apologies for cross posting]
Dear All
Many thanks to those who responded to a member's request for information
regarding research ethics training with such heartening comments about our
research ethics training courses. We were delighted to receive such
positive feedback.
We're planning to re-run several established courses at Keele University in
November 2006.
On Monday 20th November we're holding an 'Introduction to Research Ethics in
a Higher Education Context' course.
This course is intended for anyone with a professional interest in issues
related to research ethics in universities, including committee members,
research office administrators, and academics. The course covers the types
of ethical issues that arise during research, ethical issues in different
types of research (e.g. qualitative methods) with a particular focus on
student projects. As on all of our courses, sessions will be lively and
interactive and make extensive use of case studies and small group
discussions.
A course timetable and a booking form can be downloaded from our website at:
http://www.keele.ac.uk/depts/pk/ret.html or contact Val Taylor (details
below) for further information.
On Monday 27th, Tuesday 28th, and Wednesday 29th November 2006, we're
running three training courses in research ethics. These courses are
designed primarily with NHS research ethics committees in mind, and most of
the case studies will be of the kind that an NHS committee would have to
deal with. However, they are also suitable for those with an interest in
research ethics in a higher education context, particularly if your
institution
undertakes a lot of medical research.
Taken together, these three days form our 'Initial and Continuing Training
in Research Ethics' course, though each day is a stand-alone course which
can be booked separately. Training will be in seminar rather than lecture
format and will involve group discussions where we seek to
draw on the experiences of the delegates where appropriate.
The courses are as follows:
Introduction to Research Ethics, Monday 27th November 2006;
Confidentiality and Consent, Tuesday 28th November 2006;
Further Issues in Research Ethics, Wednesday 29th November 2006.
Fees are 190 per one day course, or 520 for all three days. This covers
course materials, lunch, and refreshments. Conference standard B&B
accommodation is available for £40 per night.
Programmes for each day and a booking form can be found on our website at:
http://www.keele.ac.uk/depts/pk/ret.html or contact Val Taylor (details
below) for further information.
These courses are also available in-house. If you'd like further
information we'd be very pleased to hear from you.
Kind regards
Valerie Taylor
