The message below is from Kate Burden at the University of Manchester. Please respond to her
directly if you can help with her enquiry.
We are planning to develop a new suite of joint honours programmes in Screen Studies for the
University of Manchester. Initially these will be joined with Modern Languages and later with a
range of subjects within the university including English & American Studies, Drama & History
among others. The new suite of programmes will need a core strand interrogating the idea of
"interdisciplinarity" at a number of levels. At the more over-arching level – the workings of
interdisciplinarity in Cultural Studies; at the level of the overlap between subjects – the study of
the interdisciplinary traffic specifically between the given two subjects (crudely); at the subject-
internal level – the formation of the discipline and the impact of interdisciplinarity.
We are therefore looking at existing models for joint honours courses as well as core courses
offered on interdisciplinary courses with the hope of finding best practices in interdisciplinary
studies. I would be grateful if you could share any information and experience that you have on
this issue.
Warm regards,
Kate Burden
