Dear Caroline et al
Most more senior / experienced wiccans understand the relationship - perhaps
sisterhood that exists between both currents - I think it probably is true
that Jack Parsons met Gardner and suggested that he get more into witchcraft
as the more appropriate current for the new aeon - and Gardner never did do
much with his OTO charter - partly because of this and partly because
Crowley died before he could really pass on sufficient information. It's
said that Crowley was also moving towards this kind of reform.
After Crowley's death Gardner started the denial process - in rather an
ungallant manner so i'm told - and some of the more mainstream wiccans found
it advantageous to deny their origins and distance themselves from their
magical brethren. Even some of the many thelemic types within wicca found it
advantageous to keep it under the seal - but some rites such as Gnostic Mass
were just too close to their hearts to let go. These are 'secret'
connections. That's why IMO academics who try to study the material whilst
bracketing out magick often do get in wrong.
Things seems to be coming full circle now -
the new meeting ground IMO is the sabbatic craft,
luciferian witchcraft and current new wave of stellar magick.

Absolutely. I think they (being Wiccans - of what sort I don't really know,
I only own Janet and Stweart Farrar's books with the 3 degree scripts in
them) even used to use a *very* similar text to parts of the Mass, and it
was later changed somewhat - although I'm so *not* up on Wicca its all a
blur to me now. Although if you try and bring any sort of discussion about
Crowley/Wicca up on Wiccan email lists they just get hellishly mad - maybe
its because I'm not a Wiccan. I like Allen T. Greenfield's idea that Jack
Parson's "Babalon Working" may have been mysteriously responsbile for the
explosion (pardon the Parsons-related pun) in popularity of Wicca - who are
the Lady and the Horned God, if not Babalon and Therion anyway?.... (ready
to duck angry email flames)... But of course, in occultism, you can make
*anything* look like its a result of a magickal working...
>>Can you remember what TL says about all that?<<
Yeah, I'll look it up.
~Caroline.
