PhD Scholarships
Department of Accounting, Finance and Management

The Department of Accounting, Finance and Management is inviting applications for five scholarships, starting in October 2006, in the areas of accounting and management.

These scholarships are available on a competitive basis for full-time UK, EU or overseas candidates. Each is worth £8,000 per year for three years. (In most instances at least part of this funding will go towards tuition fees, for 2006/07 fees will be £3,168 for UK/EU students and £8,700 for international students).

The Department has 40 members of staff and 50 PhD students. It is a highly ranked, research-driven organisation with an Accounting Group that is notable for the breadth and diversity of its research interests. Particular strengths lie in the areas of: governance and accountability, business ethics, auditing, accounting and business history, corporate social responsibility, management accounting, and critical accounting, including critical perspectives on globalisation, privatisation and public sector reforms.

The Department's Management Group also pursues a very inter-disciplinary research agenda. Particular strengths lie in the areas of: critical management studies, art, aesthetics and philosophy of organisation and management, language and narrative analysis, and critical perspective of globalisation, international management and technology.

Members of both research groups have organised a range of international conference and conference streams in these areas of research. A number of high-profile journals are edited by staff in the Department, which contributes to a vibrant research culture.
