pose new and daunting challenges for records managers and archivists. This
conference considers some recent work that has begun to confront and
investigate these challenges.
This event is aimed especially at the records and archives community and is
jointly hosted by King's and the Records Management Society's HE-FE Group.

Event: Challenges of the e-environment for records managers and archivists
in higher education
Start time: Coffee at 10am for a 10.30 start
Programme:
1. Two projects from JISC's 4/04 Programme (Supporting Digital Preservation
and Asset Management) will present reports on their recent work. Jan Booth
(from King's College London) will discuss an initiative to develop a
coherent institutional digital asset strategy at King's, taking in business
records, course materials and research data. Janette Martin (Digital
Archivist, John Rylands) will tell us more about the PARADIGM project. This
project has looked practically at the issues around accessioning and
preserving digital archive material, specifically collections of private
papers.
2. Andrea Buttle (Consultant, Southern Universities Management Services)
will report on her work with universities, specifying technical solutions to
records management problems.
3. Patricia Methven (Director of Archives and Information Management,
King's) will lead an expert panel in an open discussion on the significant
and topical issue of managing electronic research records.
A free lunch will be provided. The afternoon session will end at 3.30pm.
