_Supervisors_
*Dr Amanda Amos* is Reader in Health Promotion. She has considerable
experience of supervising postgraduate research students and is
currently co-supervising three PhD students. She has over 20 years
experience of researching smoking related issues. Recent research has
focused on exploring smoking-related attitudes, intentions, behaviours
and experience among older teenagers and low income communities. She has
also evaluated community based interventions on smoking among low income
women, and smoking cessation initiatives targeted at young smokers and
disadvantaged groups. Of particular relevance to this study is her
involvement in two NHS Health Scotland funded qualitative studies which
are exploring the impact of the smoke-free legislation in affluent and
deprived communities in Scotland.* *
*Professor Sarah Cunningham-Burley* is Professor of Family and Medical
Sociology. She is an experienced researcher and project manager in the
areas of families, relationships and health. She has considerable
experience in supervising PhD students. She has recently completed
research for the Joseph Rowntree Foundation on mothers' experiences of
caring and providing, which included child care dilemmas and on the
experiences of young people growing up in families affected by substance
misuse. She has been involved in the evaluation of a parenting programme
and is a consultant on an evaluation of a young parents’ project in
Easterhouse. She has conducted research for the Scottish Executive
Education Department on Early Years’ Policies. She has also undertaken
research on smoking and young people and is involved in one of the
qualitative studies evaluating the impact of the smoking ban.
