[EMS-NEWS]
FAO postgraduates using the 8-channel studio:
just to advise that the faulty Blue Sky BMC unit has been replaced
today and the 8-channel studio is now back to it's default working
state prior!
A few things to make careful note of:
1. The Adam speakers/Blue Sky BMC (bass management controller) have
all been recalibrated with a professional SPL meter and the input
levels on the speakers should not be adjusted under any
circumstances! The single Blue Sky controller now controls all the
speaker levels in unison. I would suggest an initial setting of -10db
for monitoring purposes in the 8-channel studio. If, as a result,
your piece is excessively load, please come and see me for some
(sound level) advice!
2. As a result of the recalibration, please be aware that the
subwoofer output level has been lowered by 15dB, which is a fairly
large cut. If you have ProTools sessions that use the subwoofer you
would be advised to revisit them and check the sub level, which may
well need to be increased.
3. If when first using the studio you do not hear anything, or 3 of
the 5 speakers are muted, please press the "cancel" button on the
Blue Sky controller once (to solo) and then once again (to exit solo
mode). This will reset the signal pathway to the speakers and should
make everything fully active again
Reason: there is an issue when the system is inactive for long
periods of time, and certain speakers will be automatically muted and
'inactivated' by the Blue Sky controller as a result.
4. The d2/d3 plug-ins were lost when the G4 computer initially
failed. I am still awaiting replacement authorizations (in hard copy
form) from Digidesign for these, so please use the generic Digidesign
compressors/limiters in the meantime.
regards
Ian
