CMS Doctoral Consortium, AOM 2006
12 August 2006, Atlanta Georgia
The CMS Division of the AOM would like to invite you to their 2006
Doctoral Consortium. Whether you are a newly minted PhD student, an
experienced traveller still in hot pursuit of the degree, or an experienced
wayfarer and seasoned academic, please join us for an engaging day of
debate, discussion, and dialogue. The consortium is focussed on
providing an opportunity to engage with like minded individuals on a wide and
diverse range of topics and issues. In addition to free dialogue there
will be a free breakfast and free lunch provided.
The consortium will be held at the AOM site in Atlanta (specific room
allocation TBD) from 7:30am through to 5:00pm. The atmosphere will be
friendly, informal and flexible in order to meet the needs of the
participants. A general sketch of planned activities is outlined below.
07:30 – 08:15 Breakfast Breakfast is provided courtesy of CMS
08:15 – 08:30 Welcome Introduction of consortium participants
08:30 – 09:30 Research Roundtable This is an opportunity for students
to present their research in an informal setting, to seek advice and
guidance from experienced academics, to pose questions and seek feedback,
solutions or understanding. This can be done in a ‘peer’ reviewed
process for any participant should they choose.
09:30 – 10:30 One – to - Ones An extension of the research roundtable,
this is an opportunity for students to meet directly with academics for
one to one conversations on areas of mutual interest and concern.
10:30 – 12:00 Publishing and Careers This is an interactive panel on
the challenges of publishing from a critical perspective. Panel members
will be sitting journal editors or members of journal editorial boards.
12:00 – 13:30 Lunch Lunch is provided courtesy of CMS.
13:30 – 14:30 Joint Session with GDO This session is designed to
explore common points of ground between the CMS and GDO divisions of the
academy.
14:30 – 15:30 Exploring Methods Panel This is an opportunity for
participants to engage in discussion concerning leading methods and their
application in research projects.
15:30 – 16:30 The Future of CMS This is an interactive panel discussion
where the future of CMS in the academy will be the ‘dominant’ dialogue.
16:30 – 17:00 Wrap Up Close of the consortium.
We have several senior academics with strengths in various stripes of
critical methodologies and approaches, some journal editors, and
interested others committed to this activity. This is an event that is
designed to meet the unique needs of the junior CMS community and we hope to
make this consortium event even more successful than last year’s. We
encourage you to help make this happen. Pre-registration is a
requirement as a) we would like to ensure that everyone has an equal
gastronomic
opportunity and therefore numbers of participants are important, b)
this will allow us to ensure a regulated pace of activities throughout the
day, and c) it will allow us to match research interests between junior
and senior attendees.
