SOCIAL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION: ANNUAL CONFERENCE 2006
Call for Papers
"Challenging myths: researching reality - the role of social research"
Wednesday 6th December 2006
Brunei Gallery, SOAS, University of London
This year the SRA's annual conference provides an opportunity to look at
myths and popular misconceptions in society and how social research can
address them. The SRA hopes to promote discussions about the nature of
social research and the role it plays in informing the research and policy
community as well as the general public.
The SRA therefore welcomes abstracts for presentations for both plenary (30
minutes) and workshop sessions (20 minutes) that discuss and explore the
following themes:
· Understanding myths: research that investigates how and why they form;
· Discovering myths and stereotypes: identifying and exploring
misperceptions and misconceptions;
· Challenging misconceptions: effective use and dissemination of social
research to policy makers and the public;
· Perpetual myths: can they really be dispelled?
· Distinguishing myths from reality: are myths a problem?
We are looking for informative and innovative papers from social
researchers across government, academia, independent, commercial and
voluntary sectors.
To be considered for either a workshop or plenary session, please send your
abstract (300 words maximum) along with:
- your name
- affiliation
- contact details (including e-mail address)
- paper or presentation title
to Oliver Hayllar at [log in to unmask]
