The Politics of Multi-Level Governance
2 ESRC CASE PhD studentships - £14,300 p.a.
Opportunities to research the rapidly developing field of multi-level
governance and English regionalism are available.
1. The politics of multi-level governance: regional influence on MPs, MEPs
and councillors. This research will investigate networks of influence
between Regional Assemblies and MPs, MEPs and councillors in European,
national and local governments (Supervisor: Dr. Colin Copus; Partner: West
Midlands Regional Assembly).
2. Accountability in multi-level governance: stakeholder engagement and
development. This research will explain the role and accountabilities of
business, voluntary sector, faith, and other stakeholder members of Regional
Assemblies within a system of multi-level governance (Supervisor: Prof.
Chris Skelcher; Partner: English Regions Network).
The research is located within Inlogov's well-established research groups on
Governance and Local Politics, part of a lively department within a larger
School of Public Policy. Students will offer policy-oriented advice to the
partner organisations, both of which are based in Birmingham.
INLOGOV is multi-disciplinary, and applicants may come from politics, social
policy, public management, geography, or another social science background.
Each ESRC +3 CASE award, commencing October 2006, is worth £14,300 p.a. plus
£750 training support grant.
