information access and security: legal considerations and tools for records management
Recent legislation has had a direct and significant impact on records management programmes. On the one hand records management personnel must ensure the record systems they manage and support are compliant with relevant laws: on the other hand there is a plethora of guidance, advice and codes of practice to navigate and use productively in their particular organisation. Metadata is the information about an information resource that enables others to find it, to interpret it and to manage it. Metadata is fundamentally a simple concept: it consists of a metadata field and a value entered into that field. Managing metadata is the art of establishing which fields you need, and of ensuring the quality and consistency of values entered into those fields.

understanding and complying with the ISO 15489 records management standard (Glasgow)
ISO 15489 is a concise distillation of records management best practice, backed by a Technical Report which provides a holistic methodology (best known by its acronym 'DIRKS') for building compliance. In the course we will deconstruct the records management standard into its key component elements that delegates can use to assess their current situation and to identify priority areas for action.
