Stephen, it's Barbara Guest, the title poem to her last collection, a
beautifully produced hardback book from Wesleyan, a white cloth book with
"BG" in pink on the cover.
Melissa reviewed the book recently and went into the abstract expressionist
connections:

though there's also a recurring of leaves in the book Melissa doesn't go
into, "Restless leaf modifies his poem."
There's a series of Arnold Schönberg paintings, 'Der Rote Blick'
Two more lines complete the poem:
THE RED GAZE
Red, purple, brown Guardian leaf.
Complications of red enter the leaf
and its is more accomplished,
turning brown then gray in varying attitudes
after the snow begins. Colorful complications
disturb serenity, causing our eye
to wander over the shaking tree.
Morning began with a concert of white.
Blue enters later.
