That's interesting. Is it therefore possible that miners from Derbyshire were involved in mining development in Yorkshire & Lancashire? It sounds like a classic example of the movement of a term from one place to another as a result of a transferral of skills or labour.
Obviously as I don't know enough about mining history in these geographical areas, but I'm sure others will have views on this.

Well, actually no. There are references to soughs at Yorkshire and
Lancashire coal and lead mines (and, I am sure, way beyond) from the 17th
century onwards, but unlike Derbyshire they are not generally called soughs
when given a name.
