It did not work for me either. It may be that you need WORD XP (rather than
2000), which I use. However Character Map comes will all versions of
Windows (at least from 95). Unusual characters (including accented ones)
can be copied copies from it using 'select' and 'copy' in that program and
'paste' in your document. However, it is usually much more satisfactory to
transcribe 'long s' as 's', and to expand abbreviated characters. The
exception is where there is uncertainly of the meaning, in which case the
original should be reproduced.

Subject: Re: Identifying a font with a 'long s'
That did not work for me at all, nothing happened it simply stayed
highlighted. does it come up actually as a long 's' or just as an
italic 'f' as happens if you simply hold down ALT and then on the numeric
keypad 159 ƒ This is not really a long 's' it is more like the forte
sign in music. But we have a LOT of letters which use the long 's' and we
have not found anything that works as yet.
We also tried that website which was recommended, and we could not find
the long 's' on it anywhere, so we must have missed something
