Wilfred,
I love your reference to Pirsig and to Peirce. Pirsig lived in
Minneapolis - a cultural anomoly, perhaps, but here I am, as well.
It's interesting who and when we invoke as persons of wisdom. I am of
the Pragmatist school begun by Peirce, extended by Dewey and my
central person, G.H. Mead - most importantly (for me, at any rate) is
the attempt to "get around" the dualisms of mind and body crowned by
Plato and extended into Christianity and Islam.
Worth recalling that Pirsig's "Zen" is a modern gloss on Plato's
Phaedrus. A route to wisdom?
