This conference is jointly hosted by EMAS (Sheffield City Council) and the ESRC
research project ‘Post-Conflict Identities: Practices and Affiliations of
Somali Refugee Children’ (Universities of Sheffield and Leeds). The conference
seeks to discuss good practice and update on current research on Somali
communities in Britain.
The day conference combines talks given by invited key note speakers and
workshops where delegates get the chance to interactively discuss their
experience and ideas with a workshop facilitator.

The Ethnic Minority Achievement Service (EMAS) Sheffield Children and Young
People’s Directorate and the Post-Conflict Identities Project at the
University of Sheffield are hosting this conference.

Key Points & Goals
The conference has a major emphasis on rigor, relevance, and relationships
between Somali community service providers, engaging and hearing the voices of
Somali people, particularly children and young people. The conference goals
are to exchange and disseminate good practices, update on current research and
provide reference points for delegates. Through the promotion of greater
understanding, partnerships, equitable access and outcomes empower both Somali
communities and service providers.
Registration Information
The registration fee is £75 per person. Concessions are available for Somali
community projects (voluntary) £40 per person. The conference is limited to 80
delegates. Please use the attached registration form.
The conference registration desk will open at 8:45 a.m. The conference will
start at 9.30 a.m., lunch is at 12.30 p.m. with the afternoon session starting
at 1.30 p.m. the conference is set to close at 4.30 p.m.
Who Should Attend?
Staff from schools, universities, community groups, local authorities,
Children and Young People’s Service, Connexions, and Youth Service. This is
also an important event for local community representatives, service
providers, refugee and asylum seeker organisations, Youth Offending Team and
Law Enforcement Officers.
