True enough. I think that if you were to add something like
MOSTLYCLEANFILES=*.htx *.aux *.log
to thirdparty/fsf/automake/lib/am/starlink_stardocs.m4, then rebuild
automake, then that would do the trick. See <http://
sources.redhat.com/automake/automake.html#Clean>. I'm not really in
a position to test this, since my machine's having its disk replaced.

I don't think there should be an automatically-generated one. That's
partly because I would resist excess cleverness in the automake
extensions, but also because I feel that the .htx_tar.extras file is
analogous to a local .h counterpart to a .c file -- the author's in
the best position to manage declaring that dependency explicitly. Do
you have a strong feeling about this?
