Do so many 'die' (lose something essential, not get the news, etc)
because instead of 'poetry' (a kind of truth deep laid) 'we' are
inundated with so much fluff meant to keep even the little news a
Cockburn can offer from being heard/seen?
'Escape' as Tolkien argued, is often necessary, but only if we actually
know what our spirit is escaping from, & will return, somewhat
refurbished, to. So poetry as such is needed, but too often now lost in
the noise.
Like the amazing lift I got recently at one of the little local
galleries, which has this amazing small six piece abstract Composition
by Borduas on display. There I can see it, & be lifted (even as its POR
tag tells me that I can never have it, & that someone very rich
eventually will). For the moment, for me, a gift.

The poet is ecstatic, having dreamt of this visit for weeks.
He takes Erato’s face, dribbling and wild, between his hands
and kisses her gently as if she were a runaway teenager.
