A one-day seminar on cruise ship medical practice. Please pass this
information to anyone whom you think might have an interest or is merely
curious.
Experience on board is now becoming more recognised for its value; more
physicians of all "ages" and levels of experience are becoming interested.
Emergency Medicine and General Practice are the most common backgrounds for
ship physicians, which is why I let the list know. For yourselves, your
colleagues or your juniors - doctors as well as nurses, of course.
This is, of course, only for people prepared to make the sacrifice of
tearing themselves from the very
well-paid-stress-free-short-sociable-hours-NHS in order to suffer the
Caribbean heat, slaving for as many as 25-30 hours a week, having to have
your "home" where others pay to vacation and all for a measly sum (for some)
of over £100K pa, which is so derisory that even the taxman can't be
bothered to tax it... Alternatively, you may simply wish to find out about
an occasional paid cruise vacation with a token bit of work for 2-3 weeks.
Through the seminar, you can also make your decision about whether you wish
to join the bank of (senior) Emergency Phsyicians available for short-term
(2-3 weeks) cover stints.
Recently, a number of consultants and other senior Emergency Physicians have
taken to the waves or are in the process of getting there, probably because
of the rising stresses of NHS Emergency Departments.
