I've been thinking about Andrew's question all day, and strongly endorse
what Kevin and David say. Students can have all the resources, all the
intelligence, and all the good will in the world -- and still not know
what to look FOR (who would guess that like Comes's Mythologiae even
exists?) or look UP (when the word makes a KIND of sense in its modern
meaning). There's also something to be said for portability and
durability. You can put a book in a backpack, haul it all over Europe,
and still use it twenty years later.
