Ruffey Lake Park, April 10
After the grey day of rain passes
the creek soon subsides again.
The bank grasses lie shining
smoothly groomed all one way.
Downstream the lake, refreshed,
seems to have filled slightly.
I and my dogs inhale deeply,
note the ducks, exhale lightly.
Magpie cadences share
the fresh air waves
with kookaburras'
angular signatures.
Jesus with his annual Passion
came this way yesterday,
Palm Sunday.
I saw from my front door
the crimson-cloaked centurion
and his squad march down.
The trial went on, I know,
in the old quarry which
stands in for Jerusalem.
My pup finds droppings
worth nibbling, no doubt a donkey's.
I saw the Crucifixion along there
one year, and, a few minutes later,
the Resurrection nearby
next to the old bunya-bunya pine.
Good Friday they do it all again.
I may go, leaving the dogs at home.
