(this post may be mostly for Australian poets) I'm interested in current
opinions re: the Jindyworobak movement of the late thirties to 50s (Rex
Ingamells etc.), all comments welcome. I'm doing a conference paper on them
in Perth in July and wonder whether they figure at all in the consciousness
of contemp. Australian poets (I'll be very impressed if they figure
elsewhere!). Especially interested in their attempt to revolutionize 'ways
of seeing the Australian landscape' - which surely fed into a re-imaging
along post-colonial lines (in terms of poetics) though comments on their
'nationalism' and 'treatment of/appropriation' of Aboriginal themes also of
interest. Likewise, how poets see their influence on the likes of Judith
Wright and Les Murray and beyond.
Also, any good essays, re-assessments, leads, etc. - especially recent and
or online ... and by poets.
Many thanks
Ian Irvine
