Hi everyone,
I wonder whether it's wise to talk about these
things in a semi-public environment - but hey!
Together with Omar Corrado (Universidad Catolica
de Argentina) and Caroline Rae (Cardiff), I'm
frantically putting together a project on
'Conceptions of Modernism in Latin-American and
Caribbean Music' for the British Academy
Latin-American/The Caribbean Link Programme. The
brief is for two seminars, one in the UK (Sussex)
and one in Latin America (Buenos Aires), and
programmes for extended stays for a core group of
researchers on either side. We are asked to
specify the contents of the seminars in the
application, and there don't seem to be all that
many Latin-American specialists in British music
departments (we can come up with something,
though). So, what I'm asking is whether anyone
would like to collaborate, has ideas, knows
others who might be interested etc. Needless to
say, I can't make any promises now. We are
planning to cover all expenses (travel,
accommodation, food) in the actual seminars with
BA money if we succeed, so participation should
not involve a financial commitment. It seems as
if CFPs are contrary to the nature of the project
so seminars would be by invitation. Finally, I'm
afraid this is for UK and Latin American
residents only: the BA is quite clear on that
(which I regard as rather a severe limitation). So let me know your ideas!
All best,
Björn
