Dear all, with apologies for cross-posting,
The 47th annual conference of the Society for French Studies will take place
at the University of St. Andrews, from 3-5 July 2006. As part of the
Society's on-going commitment to postgraduate research, we would like to
invite all postgraduates working in French studies to consider attending.
The conference programme and registration details are online at
http://www.sfs.ac.uk/conference2006/conference2006.htm .
St. Andrews can be reached by plane, train or bus via Edinburgh. The Society
is keen to encourage as many postgrads as possible to attend the conference,
and so is offering the following support:
- a reduced postgraduate registration fee of £55 instead of the full £185
(including accommodation and food)
- grants to help with postgraduate travel. The deadline for applications
is 5 May, and the application form is on the conference website.
- a shuttle bus between Edinburgh Airport and St. Andrews.
In addition, the conference will include special events for postgrads:
- a postgraduate meeting, where the Vice-President of the Society, Prof.
Simon Gaunt, will speak on the subject of writing for publication. Prof.
Gaunt's talk on applying for jobs at last year's conference was extremely
well received, and this year's topic promises to be just as useful.
- a poster session, where postgrads can present their research and receive
feedback from established academics.
CALL FOR POSTERS
The poster session aims to enable postgrads to present their research as
part of the conference programme, receive feedback from specialists in the
field, and so prepare them for presenting their work at future conferences.
Posters should be designed to convey the essence of a research project in a
clear and eye-catching way, to appeal to specialists and non-specialists
alike. You might also like to produce handout versions of your poster to
give to delegates. Examples of posters presented at last year's conference
are available at http://www.sfs.ac.uk/pgposters.htm .
For the first time, this year's poster session has a dedicated programme
slot to enable postgrads to gain maximum benefit from delegate feedback.
We hope that you will consider presenting a poster at this year's
conference. A registration form is available at
http://www.sfs.ac.uk/pgconf.htm, and should be returned to
[log in to unmask] by Wed 31 May. Further guidance on
presenting posters is available on the same webpage.
Best wishes
Fiona
