Dear List,
I've recently been looking at a replica Tavistock Penny token of 1811 and am rather puzzled by two combinations of letters which appear on the picture with the water wheel. They are lower left and lower right - one is a rather stylised dh; the other is a serifed cross with the letters JE DD, one letter to each spandrel. The dh symbol appears lower left of the Prince of Wales feathers on the reverse too. Does anyone know what these mean? Have a look on the Bigbury Mint website for an example.
