i have seen the mosaics before, but am severely challenged when it comes to
this early stuff and know nothing about them beyond what i can see.

looks to me to be original --or perhaps a very good "restoration"-- and gives
us a rare look at early fenestration.
seems to be a thin sheet of stone pierced by an arcade, the "glass" on the
other siee of which would have been even thinner, translucent sheets of
alabaster(?).
